Global Forum for Nicotine 2020

Global Forum for Nicotine 2020 (GFN20) is the world’s leading event for discussion about safer nicotine products, set to take place in Warsaw during June. This year’s theme for #GFN20 is ‘Nicotine: science, ethics and human rights’, and the conference will examine advances in the science of nicotine, the ethical and moral arguments and the human rights issues.

The 7th Global Forum on Nicotine will take place over 11-13 June 2020 at Marriott Hotel, Warsaw, Poland.

The conference places consumers at the very heart of its premier event. They “will again be represented in many of the sessions in the #GFN20 conference programme and there will also be satellite events planned around topics of consumer interest.”

In addition, like last year, “a consumer organisation will be selected as the #GFN20 charity partner, offering an invaluable opportunity to raise the profile of the organisation and its work. This organisation will be the beneficiary of the GFN charity raffle.”

GFN20 is offering networking opportunities for scientists, journalists, policy makers and consumers. Consumers attending will also enjoy a dedicated space at the conference venue, and “the conference organisers recognise that consumers are not generally paid for their advocacy work and so have made modest funds available to assist those unable to fund their attendance.”

Consumer advocates wishing to attend GFN20 can apply for support with registration and/or travel and/or accommodation costs by emailing noah@gfn.net.co, putting “GFN financial assistance” in the email subject field, briefly introducing themselves and stating why they would like to be considered for an award.

#GFN20 consumers advocates should select the ‘local and reduced rate’ from the registration page. Organisers say: “At £135 for all three days, including refreshments, this represents very good value.”

Organisers are also keen to receive abstract submissions [link] for oral presentations by Sunday 9th February. Abstracts should be a maximum of 400 words and will be used to plan the sessions. Potential topics include:

  • Law, policy, regulation and standards for safer nicotine products
  • Policy and politics of tobacco control and tobacco harm reduction
  • Research methods, quality of science and its communication
  • Consumer experience, engagement and influence
  • Nicotine and marginal, disadvantaged and confined populations
  • Media representation, influence and responsibility
  • Young people and longitudinal trends, and more.

The organisers would love to see more posters from consumers and consumer groups. Poster presentations do not need to focus on science and may include video posters. Further information can be found on the website.

Consumers interested in attending GFN20 and listening to the advances in the science of nicotine, the need to address the often complex ethical and moral arguments that are expounded, as well as considering the human rights issues that are a significant concern for consumers and those who advocate for rights to health, the link for further details can be found below.
